BG: What or where do you most love to shoot?

JP: I love to shoot anyone / anywhere that has a story behind it. I also love the challenge of exploring and experimenting with the relationship and dynamics between the subject and the space / environment.

BG: What is your go-to camera/lens or any other recommended gear that is a must-have?

JP: My main workhorse is the Sony A7RIV and my most used lenses are the Sony G-Master 24-70mm 2.8, Sigma Art 35mm 1.4, and the Sony G Master 70-200mm 2.8.

BG: What is one of the most exciting or exhilarating things you’ve done to capture a shot?

JP: Hiking in 60mph winds in order to get a shot of some incredible glaciers in Iceland was quite the experience.

BG: Who inspires you as a photographer?

JP: There are many photographers that inspire me, but the most significant influences have emerged from cinematographers such as Roger Deakins, Jeff Cronenweth, and Greig Fraser, as well as painters such as Vermeer and Claude Lorrain.

BG: Do you have any advice for aspiring photographers?

JP: 1) Practice is the slow yet eventual elimination of everything that hinders you from authentically expressing yourself through your craft.

2) Don’t let feelings of inadequacy dictate your pursuit, but rather embrace the process and keep creating as much as you possibly can.

BG: What has your experience been like so far using The Top Shelf?

JP: The top shelf bag has been perfect for travel. I travel a lot for various projects and stumbling upon unexpected locations / moments always highlights how valuable this bag is when it comes to giving you immediate access to your camera!
